Donate School Supplies to the Pediatric School - August 24

The start of a new school year is right around the corner! And the patients at OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois need your help. Each year, our pediatric school program works with over 1,300 patients from 330 different schools to make sure being sick doesn't mean getting behind.

But, we need your help!

On Thursday, August 24, the OSF HealthCare Foundation is collecting school supplies from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. to fill the backpacks that each patient receives. School supplies are being accepted at the Foundation office: 4541 N. Prospect Rd., Peoria Heights.

About the Pediatric School Program

The OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois Pediatric School Program helps hospitalized students keep up in school while receiving treatment because being sick or injured shouldn’t hurt their educational future.

Over the past 3 years, we have served over 1,300 unique students per school year. On average, those students come from 45 counties and over 330 different schools per year. We have two full-time teachers and one part-time aide on staff.

The program is run entirely on donations, including salaries and supplies. During the school year it costs $12,500 each month to run the program.

Each student seen in the hospital is offered or has access to:

  • A book
  • A backpack of age appropriate school supplies
  • iPads, laptops and MacBooks
  • Scholastic magazines of action, art, math, science, scope and upfront
  • Power Pen activities for literacy and math
  • Digital and hard copy textbooks in multiple languages
  • Common Core texts
  • Rolling cart of art supplies

The teachers work with each student’s school to request homework and help them stay as current as possible with their classmates through bedside tutoring. They also serve students in the St. Jude Clinic, Infusion Clinic and Eating Disorders Clinic.
